Students studying Bachelor in Hotel and Tourism Management (BHTM) at Metro College in Tulsipur have started producing cakes professionally.
The students became enthusiastic about producing cakes after the college provided a month-long bakery production training. College principal Vasant Acharya said that the college provides vocational skills to the students under the Studying and Earning scheme.
More than 800 students are currently studying in various programs at the college. Acharya said that technical education is being conducted with emphasis on youth entrepreneurship and self-employment. ‘Students are studying and earning.’ Work has been done to link studies with entrepreneurship and employment,’ he said, ‘Students are learning skills and joining enterprises.’
Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City has operated Metro College as a proud project to establish access to technical education for the underprivileged community. The municipality has run the college with the support of the state and federal governments to provide technical education to students at affordable fees.
The college was established in 2076 BS as a model project of the city. The college is currently running eight programs. The college is running technical programs at various levels in partnership with the Technical Education and Vocational Training Council.
The college is teaching Forestry, Horticulture, Food and Dairy Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the diploma level. Classes such as B.A. LLB, B.B.A., B.H.T.M. are run at the undergraduate level.
