Sandesh Budha Magar, a 12-year-old boy from Dhansi village in Rolpa, cannot use both his hands. He has not been able to use both his hands since birth. He could not eat, dress, and write with his hands.
But Sandesh did not give up. Sandesh, who was very interested in reading and writing, found a solution - to write with his feet. As the saying goes, 'Where there is a problem, there is a solution', Sandesh learned to write with his feet instead of his hands. Sandesh, who is currently taking the final exams of grade 5, has been writing with his feet since nursery and has been passing the exams.
Sandesh is a student of Nepal National Basic School in Dhansi village of Dhawang, Rolpa Municipality-10. He reaches school daily from his home, which is about half an hour away from the school.
His parents and older sister help him with dressing and other chores at home. He does the reading and writing himself. Sandesh's father, Ramu Budha Magar, says, 'Sandesh is the eldest son of the family. He could not move both his hands since birth. Later he learned to write with his feet.'
Ramu says that he does not know the reason why his son Sandesh's hands are like this. He says, 'It happened like this since birth. Even so, he did not give up. He is interested in reading, and he found it easy to write with his feet.'
School principal Jayansingh Budha Magar said that he started teaching Sandesh from a young age. He says, 'This boy was interested in reading from a young age. He practiced writing with his feet since he came to school. Nowadays, no matter how much homework is given, he can write with the help of his feet.'
To participate in the annual examination of class 5, which started a few days ago, he reaches Himalaya Secondary School Gapa, which is about an hour and a half uphill. According to the teacher Khim Budha Magar, who is conducting the examination, he writes the answers to all the questions in the answer sheet with his feet. Everyone is surprised to see such a situation.
Gyan Prasad Budha Magar, principal of Himalaya Mavi in Gapa, said he was happy to see the talent of student Sandesh. He said he was very happy to see disabled students developing their own skills and focusing on their studies with new methods.
Sandesh, who did not give up even after being unable to write and do other things with both his hands, has vowed to stand on his own feet by studying. He says, 'I want to study a little after overcoming any adversity. I want to do new things after studying.'
He said he wanted to thoroughly investigate why he did not work despite having a hand. 'Born in a remote village, his parents could not get him tested and find out the reason for his hand not working. I want to learn about this by studying,' he says.
