Eleven police officers have been injured in a clash between locals and police in Gulariya Municipality-11 Ganeshpur. A clash took place between police and locals who went to lift the postal road blockade imposed after a protest against drug trafficking.

Some locals have also been injured in the clash. Police fired 9 rounds of aerial fire and 4 rounds of tear gas to control the situation, said DSP Pramesh Bista, Information Officer of the District Police Office, Bardiya.

He said that police have taken seven people under control from the spot. 'We had to fire aerial fire and tear gas after stones were pelted on the police,' he said. Assistant Police Constable Santosh BK has been seriously injured. He is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

Locals took to the streets to protest the deaths of two people after consuming drugs imported from India, including brown sugar and Corex. Ram Narayan Keshari, former chairman of Gulariya-11 ward, said that they blocked the road demanding the closure of the border checkpoint leading to Laukahi Bazaar on the Indian border and action against drug traffickers in India.

Their main demand is to completely close the checkpoint as it is becoming a hub for drugs.
