Life on the Taulihawa-Bahadurganj Hulaki road section, which was tense due to a dispute between two communities in Bargada village of Maharajgunj Municipality on Saturday afternoon, is returning to normal. Private vehicles are currently not operating on the road. The general public is moving around easily.
After the incident, Acting District Officer Bhaviswar Ghimire issued a notice and issued a prohibitory order prohibiting gatherings, meetings, processions and demonstrations from 2 pm on Saturday until further orders from East Bagardi Bridge, West Bahadurganj Chowk, North Maharajgunj Bazaar and South Hardauna of Maharajgunj Municipality.
The place where the dispute arose amid the prohibitory order was West Maharajgunj Municipality Ward No. 6, Jigna Crossroads, ahead of Bargada village. A clash took place between protesters and police who were protesting at Jigna Crossroads. When the demonstration became uncontrollable, the police opened fire. District Police Chief Superintendent Santosh Acharya said that 23 people, including civilians and police, were injured in yesterday's incident.
11 people, including a police inspector, and 6 members of the Armed Police Force were injured. Six protesters were injured. Four of them were shot. Four are being treated in Bhairahawa and one in Bharatpur. One is being treated at Shivaraj Hospital in Bahadurganj, police said.
Superintendent Acharya informed that nine people have been taken under control by the police. District Administrator Janardan Gautam said that the prohibitory order is still in effect, keeping security in mind.
