Shantakumar Wali, a former UML leader in the district and founding chairman of Triveni Rural Municipality, has quit the party. Issuing a statement on Saturday, Wali said that he has ended his 34-year political journey with the UML.

In the statement, he also said that the party's policy has not been people-oriented in the past. 'The party's core policy and leadership are not capable of understanding the feelings of the people. Extreme opportunism and ignoring different ideas is not good. In such a situation, it is not morally acceptable to stay in the UML. I now want to be independent and continue to engage in social work,' Wali said.

He is the party's former district chairman, former central advisory council member and a leader who has been a candidate in various elections. In a statement issued on Saturday, he said that he has resigned without even remaining an ordinary member of the party. He had been involved in student politics since

2046. He had barely saved his life during the armed conflict by staying active in the communist movement in Rolpa, adhering to the policies and principles of the UML. The then  state  And was repeatedly targeted by the rebel Maoists. While in the party leadership, he is also considered a leader in the overall development work of the district. As the founding chairman of Triveni Rural Municipality, he played an important role in laying the foundation for development after being elected in the 2074 local level elections, and he has been expressing serious dissatisfaction with the working style that has been growing in the party in recent times.

Wali has accused the party leadership of promoting individual-centered 'extreme opportunism' and 'factionalism' rather than the principles of the country, people, and revolution. 'The tendency to install blind devotees around the leadership and to make compromises with anyone for personal interests has prevailed,' he said in a statement. 'In such a situation, I do not see the relevance of continuing to be a party member, so I declare that I will remain independent from today.'

He is considered a strong pillar of UML Rolpa, who saved the party in difficult circumstances and even handed over the leadership. His exit is seen as meaningful in the local politics of the district. 'He is a politically clear speaker and a successful leader.' His friend and former district president of the Congress, Madhav Acharya, said. Similarly, regarding his departure from the party, UML leader and former president of the Teachers' Organization, Rolpa, Leela Acharya commented that a good and honest leader has left the party.

It is estimated that this may affect the party organization as Wali has done people-oriented work during his tenure and especially since he has a strong hold in the Triveni area. Wali has made it clear that even though he has left party politics, he will continue to be active in the field of social service.
