The hailstorm has caused damage worth millions of rupees to farmers in Palpa. Vegetable crops including beans, bitter gourd, ghiraula, farsi, wheat, and tomatoes have been damaged.

Sita Ghimire, a commercial farmer from Kajipauwa, Tansen Municipality-7, claimed that she had suffered damage worth more than Rs 600,000. She said that more than Rs 200,000 was damaged in semi-hi-tech tunnels and plastic tunnels. ‘The 5-minute hailstorm and wind destroyed all the vegetable crops,’ she said, ‘The farmers suffered because of the devastation of nature.’

Suraj Rayamajhi, a farmer from Tansen Municipality-7, also said that vegetable crops and plastic tunnels worth more than Rs 300,000 were damaged. But now they have been completely destroyed,’ he said, ‘It took a short time but the heavy hailstorm caused a lot of damage.’

In Tansen Municipality-1, Barangdi, Archale, Sapakhum and other places, oranges, masam, and lemons that were blooming in the farmers’ fields have also been damaged greatly. Commercial farmers of Tansen Municipality-7, including Dil Bahadur Thapa, Bhim Bahadur Rayamajhi, Tejendra Thapa, Netra Thapa, and Bishal Thapa, have also suffered damage to their vegetable crops due to hail. 

They said that they have requested information about the damage from the Tansen Municipality-7 ward office over the phone. According to the farmers, the local level, Agricultural Knowledge Center, and National Modernization Project Vegetable Zone have not come to the farmers' fields to collect the actual damage details even after 5 days of hailstorm.

Farmers have said that the hailstorm that came along with the wind in Tansen Municipality, Ribdikot, Rainadevi Chhahara, and Baganaskali Rural Municipality has also damaged the food crops that were ready to be brought in. 

The hailstorm and wind have caused more damage to the winter and spring crops. Some farmers have suffered damage to their wheat, barley, potatoes, vegetables, peas, and fruits. Farmer Netra Thapa said that some farmers have suffered great losses in their wheat, lentils, lentils, barley, potatoes that were being dug up, and mustard that was being uprooted for import. Those who make a living by selling insect pods are also worried. 

He said that farmers are in great trouble due to the damage to cash crops. ‘A good income was earned from winter and spring crops,’ he said, ‘now it has been reduced to zero.’

According to Kalpana Pokharel, head of the Tansen Municipality Agriculture Branch, the data collection has not yet been completed. She said that data from some farmers is being collected. ‘Information is also being collected through phone calls,’ she said, ‘but not everyone’s data has been completed.’ Suraj Pandey, technical assistant at the Agricultural Knowledge Center, said that complete details have not been received from the local level.

According to initial reports, vegetable crops planted in an area of ​​142 ropanis have been destroyed, and some plastic tunnels have been damaged.
