Dr. Madhav Bahadur Thapa of the National Independent Party (NISP) has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Palpa Constituency-2. According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Thapa was elected by securing 26,736 votes. Thapa's nearest competitor, Himal Dutta Shrestha of the Nepali Congress, secured 12,992 votes. Similarly, Thakur Prasad Gaire of the CPN (UML) secured 10,503 votes, Som Prasad Pandey of the Nepali Communist Party secured 5,288 votes, and Dev Prasad Shrestha of the National Republic Nepal secured 693 votes. After his victory, the elected Thapa said that he was an MP for all Palpalis and that he would work to establish an agenda of change. Although he was a resident of Palpa's Ribdikot Rural Municipality-7, Palungmainadi, he had been living in Rupandehi, Butwal. Earlier, Thakur Gaire of the UML had won in Palpa-2.
