Gulmi voters have defeated full-time politicians and elected an engineer and a lawyer as members of the House of Representatives. Engineer Sagar Dhakal and lawyer Govinda Panthi have been chosen by Gulmi instead of Pradeep Gyawali, Gokarna Bista, Chandra Bhandari and Sudarshan Baral.

In Gulmi 1, Dhakal was defeated by UML leader and former minister Pradeep Gyawali, Congress leader Chandra Bhandari, Nepali Communist Party central member and former minister of Lumbini Province Sudarshan Baral, while in Constituency No. 2, UML Vice-President and former minister Gokarna Bista was defeated by Panthi.

This time, Constituency No. 1, where Dhakal won, is a constituency where Gyawali and Congress's Bhandari have been winning elections alternately. Gyawali had won from here in the 2056 BS House of Representatives, the first Constituent Assembly of 2064 BS and the 2074 BS House of Representatives elections.

UML's influential leader Gyawali had also become a minister several times. Similarly, Bhandari had won the second Constituent Assembly election in 2070 and the House of Representatives election in 2079. Earlier, when there were 3 constituencies, Baral was elected as a member of the Constituent Assembly in 2064 from the then Maoists, and in 2074 he was elected as a member of the Provincial Assembly and became the Minister of Social Development.

Dhakal, who defeated all three of them, received 29,642 votes, while his closest competitor Gyawali received 15,181 votes. Their difference is 14,461. Bhandari got 13,505 votes and Baral got 3,176 votes.

The elected Dhakal was born in Satyawati Rural Municipality-6 of Gulmi in 2048 BS. He came into the limelight after reaching Dadeldhura and directly competing with former Prime Minister and then Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba in the 2079 BS elections. Deuba got 25,534 votes while Dhakal got 13,042 votes. Dhakal, who has been speaking on issues of education, youth empowerment, development and good governance, is a member of the US Embassy Youth Council in 2015.

Gulmi 2, which Panthi won, is a constituency where UML's Gokarna Bista has been winning elections for 26 years. Bista had won the 2056 House of Representatives member election, the 2070 Constituent Assembly, the 2074 election, and the 2079 House of Representatives. In the 2064 Constituent Assembly election, Bista, who lost to Chandra Bahadur Thapa Sagar of the Maoists, became the Minister of Energy despite losing the election. Panthi won in this constituency amidst a very tough competition between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the UML and the Nepali Congress.

Panthi, who defeated Bista, retired from the post of DSP of the Nepal Police. Born in 2031 BS in Madane-7, Gulmi, Panthi worked as an advocate after retiring from the police. While in the police service, Panthi investigated visit visas and human trafficking.

Panthi defeated Bista by a margin of 561 votes and was elected as a member of the House of Representatives. Panthi got 16,967 votes while Bista got 16,466 votes, while Bhuwan Prasad Shrestha of the Nepali Congress got 14,434 votes. Nepali Communist Party candidate Shriram Mahat got only 3,078 votes.
