Building the Naumure Hydropower Project is my first priority: Bhusal

What you should know

UML candidate for the House of Representatives, Pitambar Bhusal, has said that after being elected, he will take the initiative to advance the construction of the Naumure Multipurpose Hydropower Project with the government and the people's share investment.

He said that not only electricity can be generated from Naumure, but also irrigation can be done on agricultural land in the Terai districts and a tourist destination can be made near the dam site.

'Budget allocation has been low due to lack of political access for many years,' he told Ikantipur, 'Power generation, building a lake near the dam site to become a tourist destination and irrigation to the Terai fields will increase food production. My first priority is to increase the budget for Naumure and move the work forward quickly.' For this, he committed to discussing the work with the Parliament, the government, the Prime Minister, and the Energy Minister.

This project is located on the border of Sarumarani Rural Municipality-3 of Pyuthan and Shitaganga Municipality-8 of Arghakhanchi. In recent years, work has been slow due to lack of budget and manpower. This fiscal year, only Rs 110 million has been allocated in the budget.

The latest report mentions that a power house will be built in Sarumarani of Pyuthan and a dam of 88 megawatts can be built in Lamatal of Arghakhanchi to generate 281.34 megawatts of electricity. Along with electricity, the project aims to increase food and vegetable production by irrigating cultivable land in Kapilvastu, Dang and Banke districts. The water from Naumure after power generation is targeted to irrigate 29,736 hectares in Kapilvastu, 42,766 hectares in Banke and 10,800 hectares in Deukhuri of Dang. The project has been incomplete since the Panchayat period.
