Police have arrested a man for assaulting a candidate during an election campaign event in West Nawalparasi.
On Wednesday, Raju Harijan, a candidate of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) constituency number 1, and his cadres were beaten up while they were visiting houses in Jamuniya area of Bardaghat Municipality Ward number 12. According to DSP Birdutt Pant of District Police Office Nawalparasi, three youths came shouting and assaulted the candidate.
Ajay Gautam, 21, of Bardaghat Municipality Ward number 13, has been arrested on charges of assault. Police have said that two others are absconding in the same incident.
Gautam, who was arrested, has been investigated on charges of indecent behavior and assault.
The Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) has said that he was beaten up for coming to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) constituency and asking for votes.
