Wherever there are Shaktipeeth temples, they stop their vehicles and allow the idols to be worshipped. When voters place their heads at their feet, they ask for 'blessings', but when the idols are worshipped at the Shaktipeeth, the candidates do not make a sound.
What you should know
In the village, candidates have shown different styles and methods of seeking votes. They cover the hands and feet of voters and bow down to offer 'blessings'. Some even visit temples. Such photos/videos have gone viral on social media.
In previous elections, candidates used to greet voters and try to attract votes by telling them about the development agenda. In this year's election to the House of Representatives to be held on Falgun 21, candidates have gone to great lengths. Wherever there are temples with Shaktipeeths, they are stopping their vehicles and bowing down to the idols. When voters place their heads at their feet, they ask for 'blessings', but when the idols are placed on the Shaktipeeths, the candidates do not make a sound.
Seeking votes, Congress candidate Bishnu Prasad Khanal (Muskaan) reached Durgaphant in Panini Rural Municipality-3 and asked for votes by covering his hands and bowing down to a 97-year-old man and asking him to 'bless'. His style remained different throughout the day of Mahashivaratri. He visited the Chutraveshi Shiddeshwar Shivalaya Temple, the Nrisinghasthan Temple in Bamaruk, and Durgaphant, and walked around the Shaktipeeths all day, keeping his head at the feet of the devotees there. He also joined the devotees in dancing and singing. He spent some time inside the temple.
‘It is a culture and respect to bow down to voters who are older than him and have played an important role in politics and social life,’ he said. ‘It is only with the blessings of the voters that one gets the opportunity to serve the people.’ Khanal is contesting the election for the first time as a member of the House of Representatives.
Although the development demands of the locals vary from village to village, most voters raise the issue of human-wildlife issues. He assures that he will reach the parliament and raise his voice to formulate policies and resolve them. Along with this, Khanal presents the agenda of creating employment for the youth through various enterprises including easy health services, quality education, infrastructure development, roads that run all year round .
In this style, the candidates have focused on giving 'blessings' rather than the development agenda . There, they try to please the voters by saying, "Vote for whatever development agenda they ask for, we will do it after becoming MPs, we will give it to you." They also assure that they will do the work done by some provinces, local levels and wards.
UML candidate Pitamber Bhusal is running door to door . He is polite and gentle in nature and asks for votes by speaking softly . When meeting voters, he greets them first and says, "Please vote with folded hands, I will develop the district." He assures voters in a different way than other candidates. ‘To complete the development work done by the leaders elected from UML, please continue it by electing me,’ he says, ‘It is my responsibility to complete every development work carried out in the village and increase economic activities. Please shoulder the burden of this responsibility.’
He has also been keeping the voters informed about the work done by former MPs elected from UML, including Dr. Dilliraj Khanal, Dr. Duman Thapa, Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chetnarayan Acharya, and Province MP Ramji Prasad Ghimire, based on the results of the election of UML’s Rayamajhi, Acharya, and Ghimire in the 2079 elections.’
Bhusal claims that he will win the election based on the results of the election of UML’s Rayamajhi, Acharya, and Ghimire. ‘Continuously completing development work and creating employment for the youth in Arghakhanchi,’ said Bhusal, ‘My first goal is to change the situation of the district by carrying out an economic revolution. I am running a campaign for self-employment for the youth in the village.’
Nepali Communist Party candidate Ram Bahadur Chauhan has emphasized on extensive publicity on social media through speeches, door-to-door conversations with voters. Even before becoming a candidate, he used to bow his head and greet everyone he met, and inquire about their current affairs. ‘Those who have spent their lives in social work should be respected,’ said Chauhan, ‘This is social harmony and unity.’ In order to get something, you have to respect others.'
In every speech, he talks about the Argha Bhagwati Airport, Saljhandi-Sandhikharka-Dhorpatan road, Naumure multipurpose hydropower project, and other projects started by Top Bahadur Rayamajhi to create self-employment for locals in the village through agriculture, animal husbandry, and tourism enterprises. 'I have made a roadmap on how to make Arghakhanchi, how to develop it, and what to do,' Chauhan said. 'Now we will complete the other developments that are happening and, most importantly, create employment for the youth in the district through economic development. After I win the election, I will complete the development roadmap.'
Khanal of the Congress, Bhusal of the UML, and Chauhan of the NCP are contesting for the first time as members of the House of Representatives. They are also neighbors in Malarani rural municipality. Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Hari Prasad Bhusal was also a candidate in the 2079 elections. He held a press conference in Sandhikharka on Monday and announced a 10-point resolution.
He has made public the development agenda such as religious tourism master plan, farmers' safety, agriculture self-reliance, balanced development, quality education, strong health services, youth and entrepreneurship, not desert, but fertile settlements, digital good governance and transparency, safe and sustainable development and integrated settlement development project.
