78 people from Tinau Rural Municipality in Palpa have regained their sight after receiving free cataract surgery.
Health Branch Chief Krishna Karki said that out of 120 people identified with cataracts, 78 were operated on at the eye test camp held in various wards of the rural municipality.
Palpa Lions Lakaul Eye Hospital in Tansen provided technical support for the surgery camp. The surgery was performed at the health post in Dobhan, Tinau Rural Municipality-2, said Lal Bahadur Thapa, Vice-Chairman of the rural municipality. 'The goal was to operate on all the identified patients,' he said, 'due to health complications, not all could be operated on.'
Doctors and health workers at Lions Lakaul Eye Hospital provided eye treatment and surgery services. In the two-day surgery camp, 46 people were operated on on the first day and 32 on the second day, informed ophthalmologist Dr. Bebika Phuyal.
Cataract screening was conducted in villages including Masyam, Koldanda, Satyawati, Jhumsa, Kachal, Dobhan in Tinau. Rural Municipality Chairman Prem Shrestha said that the camp has benefited those who were unable to afford expensive treatment due to geographical remoteness and lack of money.
