Twenty-six people underwent cataract surgery at a two-day free eye treatment camp organized at the Johang Primary Health Center in Satyawati Rural Municipality, Gulmi.

The camp, which was held on Thursday and Friday, was organized by Satyawati Rural Municipality and Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh District Eye Treatment and Surgery Center Gulmi.

The service was provided through the center after the municipality paid the fees of the patients who came to the camp. 374 people were examined and necessary treatment was provided in the camp. In addition, 26 cataract patients were successfully operated on free of cost, said Bir Bahadur Karki, the center's information officer.

The cataract surgery was performed by Dr. Babyka Phuyal, an ophthalmologist from Lumbini Institute of Ophthalmology and Research Center Bhairahawa, and a technical team from the District Eye Treatment and Surgery Center Gulmi.

Satyawati Rural Municipality has been organizing the surgery camp every year in collaboration with Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh Gulmi. In addition, rural municipality chairperson Tikaram Pandey said that an agreement has been reached with Nepal Netrajyoti Sangh Gulmi to provide free cataract surgeries to the citizens of the municipality in monthly surgery camps held at the district headquarters.
