A dozen polling stations in Rolpa have been placed on the 'highly sensitive' list for security reasons in the upcoming House of Representatives elections on Falgun 21.
The district-based Election Security Committee has stated that the polling stations are considered 'highly sensitive' based on security alertness, conflict between political parties, geographical location and accessibility of election security.
From the perspective of election security, some polling stations and polling centers in Thawang, Parivartan, Sunchhari, Gangadev and Runtigadhi rural municipalities have been given high priority and are considered very sensitive. 'Vigilance will be taken to make some polling stations and polling centers in those municipalities more secure and given high priority,' said a security officer deployed in the district-based election security.
Apart from them, some polling centers in other municipalities have also been considered sensitive. Security officials believe that the election environment will be comfortable this time as forces and parties involved in anti-election activities in the past have participated in the elections.
However, security officials are skeptical about the possibility of clashes between cadres of political parties participating in the elections. In previous elections, the Netra Bikram Chand Biplav-led NCP had protested and boycotted the elections.
NCP General Secretary Chand, who announced that his party will participate and actively participate in this election, has nominated his party's candidates. 'Since no one boycotted this election, it seems that the election will be held peacefully,' said Arjun Dangi, a member of the district-based election monitoring committee and social activist.
10 political parties, including the main big parties, Congress, UML, Nepali Communist Party, NCP, RPP, and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), have nominated candidates in Rolpa. These parties have also started election-focused activities.
District Election Officer Shiv Kumar Poudel said that 86 polling stations and 180 polling stations have been set up in Rolpa for this election. This time, 5 polling stations have been added compared to the previous election. The number of voters in the district is 149,597. Of these, 74,907 are female voters and 74,690 are male voters. This time, 4,126 voters have been added compared to the previous election.
Chief District Officer Ganga Bahadur Chhetri said that he is confident that the election will be held peacefully and security arrangements have been made accordingly.
Rolpa Chief Election Officer and District Judge Binod Khatiwada said that efforts are being made to ensure that the election is held in a fearless, fair and timely manner. The Nepal Army will lead the election security, while a joint security force comprising Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Election Police will be deployed.
