Share members of the Small Farmers Agricultural Cooperative Society located in Ramgram Municipality-15 have been padlocked for five days.
The cooperative, established in 2064 BS, has been distributing chemical fertilizers, collecting savings and disbursing loans. After a year of problems in the cooperative due to a conflict between the board of directors and the manager, savers are worried that their money will be lost.
The members locked the cooperative on Magh 7, saying that the general meeting and leadership selection process had not been carried out according to the rules for a long time. After locking it, the municipality took the initiative to solve the problem.
Savers have been complaining about not getting their savings back on time, not getting loans and not getting fertilizers on time. Ramdev Baniya, the advisor to the organization, said that the organization had locked the cooperative because there was no general meeting or convention even after the board of directors' term had expired for a year. ‘Consumers have been hurt by the fight between the manager and the chairman,’ said Baniya, ‘What good is the savings that were made to work in distress when problems arise and cannot be withdrawn?’
After a long-standing dispute, the Ramgram Municipality has directed to hold a general meeting immediately to elect a new leadership, but the members have requested to seek legal remedies to resolve the problem. Mira Chaudhary, the chairman of the Small Farmers Agricultural Cooperative, has insisted that they have been working according to the cooperative regulations made by the municipality.
