Nepali Communist Party (NCP) leader and former minister Barshaman Pun has said that the election for Falgun 21 has been scheduled as there is a need for a fresh mandate for good governance, nationalism and protection of independence.

At a press conference held in Liwang on Wednesday, Pun also said that small countries are at risk of disappearing from the world.

He argued that the parliamentary power that comes from a fresh mandate would be appropriate to stop corruption, mismanagement, opaque activities and foreign interference. ‘If the limits of state governance are crossed, corruption and irregularities have crossed the limit, a fresh mandate is needed to democratize good governance and parties. The fresh mandate obtained from the election will bring a new situation to the country,’ Pun said. He also said that the impact of the new world order that has emerged in the world has recently led to political turmoil in Nepal. He believes that the elections to be held in 2084 are due to this. He said that the main objective of the new party formed from 18 constituents is to protect the nation and its independence.

Recalling the incidents of last Bhadra 23 and 24, he commented on the lack of political knowledge and the need for social behavior among the young generation. ‘There has only been propaganda of disappointing activities everywhere. Now there is a need for good governance, transparency and accountable politics. Work should be done according to the demands of good governance,' he said.

'Destruction also occurred after the Prime Minister resigned. There was terror in a way that burned the history, infrastructure and records of Nepalis. Geopolitical chaos also occurred,' said Pun, who is also a former minister. He said that it is time to learn from those incidents and strengthen our homes and countries. On the other hand, he said that it is time to democratize all parties. For that, he believes that the youth need democratic and political training and that it is time to train them towards expanding positive things.

Pun, who has filed his candidacy for the House of Representatives from Rolpa, promised that he would participate in the election to focus more on the development of the district. He said that he would participate in the election in a friendly and peaceful manner with his competitors. He said that even though he was re-elected from Rolpa, he was encouraged to be a candidate according to the people's demands. He revealed that he had met with competitor Netra Bikram Chand 'Biplav', who had earlier announced his candidacy from Rolpa. 'I met with Biplav. I said let's go to the election, let's compete. But he did not come. That must be his party's decision. Our party has also nominated me as a candidate,' he said.

He has been elected to the House of Representatives twice before from Rolpa. In 2074 and 2079, he was elected to the House of Representatives from Rolpa. In the first Constituent Assembly election of 2064, he won from Lalitpur-1 and in 2070, he was defeated from Morang-9.

This is Pun's fifth election run. He has served as the Minister of Finance, Communications and Energy. He was also a combatant commander during the then Maoist armed conflict.
