The CPN-UML has decided to field Leelamani Gautam as its candidate from Rukum East for the upcoming House of Representatives elections. As the day of nomination draws near, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli finalized Gautam's candidacy on Sunday evening.
The Central Secretariat meeting held on Saturday finalized the list of 140 candidates for the direct election, leaving 25 constituencies, including Rukum East, while finalizing the candidates for those constituencies. UML central member and Rukum East district in-charge Khemman Khadka informed that Gautam's name has been finalized.
Although UML had earlier recommended the names of Khemman Khadka, Asha Swarnakar, Chintamani Dahal, Mohan Bhakta Budhamagar and Gopal Prasad Sunar as candidates, it has been decided to put forward Gautam from outside that list.
It has already been decided that Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party, will contest in Rukum East, which has only one constituency, while the Nepali Congress has also put forward former MP Kusum Devi Thapa as a candidate.
