Nawaraj Regmi, who went viral with the dialogue 'Sagar, Basante, Kisne...', has moved forward with the dream of becoming an election policeman this time.
What you should know
Sometimes a simple mobile phone, a few seconds of video, and a single sentence spoken casually can change the course of someone's life.
The same thing happened to Nawaraj Regmi.
‘Sagar, Basante, Kisne…’ means, the name that is remembered is the same- Nawaraj. Nawaraj, known as the ‘viral boy’ on social media, is once again in the news. This time, he is not just for TikTok, but has moved forward with the dream of becoming an election police officer.
Three years ago, a viral video on TikTok brought him to the attention of millions. Today, the same viral character has registered his application for the election police. With the video posted on TikTok, ‘Sagar, Basante, Kisne why are you drawing, are you going to apply for midi tomorrow?’, he has become trending among the youth again. An election police recruitment campaign is currently underway across the country.
Nawaraj is a 19-year-old youth from Jhugagaun, Banganga Municipality-3, Kapilvastu. During the local elections in 2079 Baisakh, the TikTok he made in the 'dress' of the temporary police (now the election police) suddenly went viral.
As much as that video made him famous, he also had to go through a painful moment. He spent 9 days in police custody because of the TikTok.
He made a video wearing the costume of his uncle who was enrolled in the temporary police. Where he said, 'Sagar, Basante, Kisne... don't draw everyone... your brother has become a midi!' Along with this, he also spoke other vulgar language. The police had filed a case of public offense and indecent behavior against him on charges of not using polite language, not respecting the dignity of the police and inciting him to smoke.
He was 16 years old at the time. 'I made the video thinking it should go viral on TikTok. But it was only later that I realized that I shouldn't use such words and make videos," he regrets the incident. He said that he had to stay in police custody for 9 days and served three months. After being acquitted by the court, Nawaraj says that he became aware and gained a lot of knowledge.
He was especially eager to join the temporary police force. Because he was not old enough to join at that time.
He applied for election police at the District Police Office in Taulihawa, the district headquarters, on Thursday. At the same time, a TikTok made in the same style has gone viral. "I don't know if I will be successful in the further process," he says with a laugh, "Even when I went to apply, the police recognized me."
Nawaraj belongs to a normal family. He has 3 brothers and 3 sisters. The sisters are married. He is a mailo. The elder brother and sister live in Kathmandu for their studies.
Nawaraj, who completed his SEE from Banganga Secondary School Siddhipur in Gajehada, is currently studying in Class 12 in Hotel Management (HM) from Morgan International Kajell, Basundhara in Kathmandu.
Nawaraj also provided ride-sharing services in the capital to raise funds for his studies. While studying HM, he did a three-month internship at Hotel Yak and Yeti. 'My desire and interest is to do vlogging.' However, due to lack of money, I have not been able to fulfill my interest,' he says. 'If I join the election police, I will buy a good mobile and laptop and become a content creator. I will make a vlog.'
A few seconds of TikTok made him known across the country. Navraj has again applied for state service with the same style of viral dialogue. If he is admitted, this time he will not be in a borrowed dress, but in a new dress of the election police with responsibility .
