The Lumbini provincial government has declared a public holiday across the province on Friday. The government has declared a holiday across the province as Maghi is considered a special festival in the province, which is dominated by the Tharu community.
A three-day religious fair is also held in the Ruru Kshetra Dham, a major religious place in Lumbini Province, on the border of Gulmi, Palpa and Syangja. The provincial government has been giving holidays across the province according to the festivals of the Tharu community in the Terai districts and the religious importance of the Ruru region for the hilly districts.
According to a public notice in the provincial gazette on Chaitra 21, 2081, it has been decided to give public holidays across Lumbini Province on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti and Maghi festivals, said Lok Bahadur Sunar, Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law.
According to him, the provincial government has been giving six holidays annually. Out of these, Magh 2 is the holiday for Maghi, Magh 9 is Shree Panchami and Magh 21 is the holiday for the Province Establishment Day. Similarly, one day is given for Bhumya Puja in Rolpa, Dang, Rukum East and Pyuthan districts. For the Atwari festival, there is a holiday in Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi and Nawalparasi West. Similarly, there is a one-day holiday in Palpa on the occasion of Bhagwati Jatra.
