Eight nominations have been registered from Lumbini Province for the National Assembly member election. Three candidates from the Congress-UML alliance, three from the Nepali Communist Party, and two from the Rastriya Janamorcha were registered at the office of the Returning Officer in Ghorahi on Wednesday.

In the elections to be held on Magh 11, three members are being elected from Lumbini Province, including women, disabled/minority and others. For which, the Congress and the UML have coordinated to register their candidacies. The UML had a women's quota, while the Congress had a quota from disabled and other groups. Accordingly, Ram Kumari Jhankri of Madane Rural Municipality-4, Gulmi has filed her candidacy from the UML. Jhankri is a former Urban Development Minister. She was the central secretary of the CPN-Unified Socialist Party. She has now returned to the UML and has got the opportunity to become a member of the National Assembly. Jhankri, who was established in politics through the student movement, is also the former central president of the Nepali National Federation of Students' Union. From the Congress, Lamahi Municipality-3 is being contested in the disabled quota, Basudev Ghimire of Dang and Resunga Municipality-3 in the other quota, and Chandra Bahadur KC of Gulmi is being contested in the disabled quota.

  . In the women's quota, Padma Pandit of Pyuthan Municipality-8, and Mallarani Rural Municipality-2 of Pyuthan have registered their nominations, Election Officer Prakash Prasad Pandit informed. Before registering their nominations, the leaders had held a rally in the market. The terms of Gopal Bhattarai, elected from UML, National Assembly Vice President Bimala Ghimire and Jag Prasad Sharma of the then Maoist Center are ending on Falgun 20. Bhattarai was a member from the other, Ghimire from the women's quota and Sharma from the disabled quota. Lumbini Province has 87 Provincial Assembly members and 304 voters, including 217 local level chiefs and deputy chiefs.
