The third Nepal Bird Fair is going to be held in Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha. The Pokhara Bird Society is organizing the Bird Fair on Magh 2 and 3 with the aim of highlighting the attractions of Lumbini's spiritual tourism as well as its bird and ecotourism.
At a press conference organized by the society in Lumbini on Tuesday, it was said that the program was organized to raise awareness for the conservation of bird species, biodiversity and important bird habitats. Similarly, the fair was organized with the aim of promoting bird tourism along with ecotourism by exchanging knowledge, collaboration and networking among local communities, students, guides, researchers and conservation-related organizations, said Pokhara Bird Society President and Nepal Bird Fair Organizing Committee Coordinator Manashant Ghimire.
According to Ghimire, the program includes a bird symposium (conference) on 7 different topics, a program to explain the importance of birds to 25 to 30 school students, and training on bird identification to 30 local guides. Similarly, a bird photo exhibition and a bird race (bird identification) competition will also be held.
Ornithologists, researchers and conservation workers from across the country will participate in the program. Similarly, organizations and tour operator leaders active in bird conservation from India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan are also expected to participate.
A BTB program will also be held at the Bird Fair. The program will highlight that Lumbini is not only a center of peace and spiritual tourism but also the best place in the country for bird tourism, said Hathan Chaudhary, president of the Nepal Ornithologists' Association. 'Lumbini is the best place in the world for bird watching,' he said, 'When foreign tour operators come to the Bird Fair to take out the attractions here and make itineraries, their importance is revealed globally.'
Arjun Kurmi, president of Green Youth of Lumbini, said that the Bird Fair will prove to be a milestone for the tourism development of Lumbini. At the program, Kalpana Harijan, acting chief of Lumbini Cultural Municipality, and Deepak Shrestha, member secretary of Lumbini Development Trust, emphasized that such programs should be successful with everyone's cooperation as they will showcase the ecological beauty of the place not only in the country but also abroad.
