Tansen Municipality has established a school-based disaster risk reduction resource center at Padma Public Model Secondary School in Tansen.

The resource center has been established to develop Padma Public Secondary School as a model learning center in the district to provide knowledge to students in disasters such as floods, landslides, and earthquakes.

Mayor Santosh Lal Shrestha of Tansen Municipality said that the center will be built so that all schools within Tansen Municipality can learn and teach. He said that the resource center has been established to help students learn by transferring the knowledge learned in school to themselves, their families, and the community. 

Deputy Mayor Pratiksha Gaha Sinjali said that the resource center has been established according to the first concept in Nepal. She said that cooperation will be done with the provincial and federal governments under the initiative and ownership of the local government. Assistant Chief District Officer of Palpa Rishiram Subedi said that the District Disaster Management Committee has been working on making plans for disaster-related work in Palpa. 

Mayor Shrestha said that teachers and management committee officials of schools within the municipality as well as stakeholders have been trained for the establishment of the disaster risk reduction resource center. Facilitating the Disaster Risk Reduction Resource Center, disaster expert Deepak Marhatta provided information about disaster preparedness, rescue and relief, adaptation and reconstruction and rehabilitation.

Tansen Municipality Program Focal Person Bishnu Prasad Poudel said that the federal and provincial governments, as well as donor agencies and other partner agencies, will collaborate to manage the resource center. Tansen Municipality Principal Santabir Baral said that all schools will benefit from establishing a resource center for disaster preparedness at Padya Public Secondary School.

The program was attended by principals and management committee chairs of 31 secondary schools within Tansen Municipality.
