A traffic policeman assigned to conduct a check in Butwal has died after being hit by a car.

A car with the registration number Bagmati Province 01-003 Cha 0077 coming from West Nawalparasi towards Butwal hit and killed Traffic Police Assistant Constable Nageshwor Pal, who was on a check near the yarn factory on the East-West Highway in Ramnagar, Butwal.

The speeding car hit Pal, one of the two traffic policemen deployed for routine check-ups, in the middle of the road. He was immediately taken to Lumbini Provincial Hospital, but the doctors declared him dead, said Indra Rana, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Area Police Office, Butwal.

The driver, Jitendra Singh Thapa, 56, of Resunga Municipality-2, Tamghas Gulmi, and the vehicle were taken into custody after the incident, according to the police. DSP Rana said that the incident occurred due to the speed of the car and further investigation is underway.
