The Nepali Communist Party has recommended the names of eight candidates for the direct election to the House of Representatives to be held on February 21.

The central members are Chandra Bahadur Khadka, Ram Bahadur Chauhan and Mohan Gautam. Similarly, Shobhakhar Banjade, Nirmala Pokharel Poudel and Bishnu Gaire, Girija Khadka and Thakur Saurag have been recommended as candidates from the age group under 40 years.

The closed list submitted by the party to the commission for the proportional representation includes the name of Thakur Kumar BK from the Dalit cluster.

Chauhan, Gautam and Poudel, who were directly recommended by the NCP formed after the merger of the Maoists and Unified Socialists, are from the former Unified Socialists. Chandra Bahadur is a former member of the National Assembly.

Top Bahadur Rayamajhi won the 2064, 070 and 074 elections from the Maoists in Arghakhanchi. He became the Deputy Prime Minister. After the division of the then Nepal Communist Party (NCP) formed after the merger of the UML and the Maoists, Rayamajhi joined the UML.

In Arghakhanchi, which has only one member of the House of Representatives, in the 2079 election, Rayamajhi defeated Congress leader Pushpa Bhusal Gautam, a candidate from a five-party alliance including the Congress, UML, CPN-UML, and Rastriya Janamorcha. In the 2079 election, the Maoists did not have a direct candidate in either of the two provincial assemblies.

Rayamajhi, who won the election three times as a Maoist and the fourth time as a UML, is currently in detention for investigation in the fake Bhutanese refugee case.  Leader Chauhan, who is also a central member, said that whoever the center chooses, he will try to win the election this time.
