Hom Bahadur Thapa, 40, of Bardaghat Municipality-13 in Nawalparasi West, and Binod Kumar, 30, of Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh, India, were working at the Kajaria Tiles Factory in Bardaghat Municipality-12 from 8 pm on Wednesday to 8 am on Thursday.
Nepali worker Thapa has a 5-year-old son and wife. Their work was in the company's gas chamber. Two workers who had been working since 8 pm did not come out even after finishing their work. Later, while searching, the police received information that they were found dead.
When the police arrived, they found the bodies of the two workers lying on a 'gassy fire-poking floor' with cardboard sheets on top.
According to Police Inspector Sushil Ghimire, the information officer of the District Police Office, West Nawalparasi, the manager of the industry, Ramesh Neupane, contacted the temporary police post Bhataulia at 9:20 am on Thursday, and then the police reached the spot and started the necessary investigation.
'As soon as the police came to know about the incident, we are investigating the incident. A forensic test will be required to find out more,' Ghimire said, 'There has been a local agitation. It will be easier if the body is recovered and the necessary tests are done as soon as possible.'
The relatives of the deceased are protesting in front of the industry premises, saying that they were not informed about the incident in time. They have demanded a necessary investigation and action against the culprits, saying that they died due to lack of oxygen in 'gas firing' while doing risky work.
Ward Chairman of Bardaghat-13, Nar Bahadur Chaudhary, said that an investigation should be conducted into how the incident happened and action should be taken against the culprits, and the family of the deceased should get proper compensation and employment. Discussions are currently underway with the District Administration Office and other stakeholders regarding the incident.
Locals and relatives have taken a stand that the body will not be recovered until the discussion is concluded. The industry administration has not yet made any public information about the incident.
