A woman who was herding buffalo in the Nepal-India border forest has been killed by an elephant.

Police said that a 40-year-old girl named Puri from Rajapur Municipality-10, Karmohani, died after being attacked by an elephant on Wednesday afternoon. Three buffalo herders had gone with her. Two others ran away after seeing the elephant. Information Officer and DSP Devendra Kumar Malla of the District Police Office, Bardiya searched the area on Wednesday, but the body was not found. Police, forest officials and locals reached the spot on Thursday morning and searched, the Division Forest Office, Bardiya said. DSP Malla said that the body is being brought to the hospital for post-mortem.
