The Nepali Congress and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) have selected candidates from Rolpa for the House of Representatives elections on March 21 and sent them to the center.
Both parties have recommended candidates for the National Assembly to be held on Magh 11 and the House of Representatives to be held on Falgun 12.
For the House of Representatives, the Congress has recommended four names including General Secretary Gagan Thapa, and the NCP has recommended five names including party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
From Rolpa, which has one constituency, the Congress has recommended the names of party General Secretary Gagan Thapa, Lumbini Province Congress President Amar Singh Pun, student leader Manoj Mani Acharya, businessman Gyan Bahadur Wali and engineer Dr. Mandeep Pokhrel, said the party's District Secretary Sher Bahadur Thapa.
According to him, after the NCP recommended the names of leaders including coordinator Dahal from Rolpa, General Secretary Thapa's name was recommended as per the wishes of the cadres.
Province President Pun, who is a former Minister of State for Irrigation, has previously been a candidate for the House of Representatives twice. He said that Acharya, who is the former general secretary of the Nepali Congress, has also been recommended as a candidate for the direct route. 'I have a long experience of working in youth and student organizations. I have a close understanding of the period of armed conflict, so I want to be a candidate in the upcoming elections,' Acharya said.
Similarly, for the National Assembly elections, the Congress has recommended the names of former district president Madhav Prasad Acharya and youth leader Jhakku Gharti Magar. For the proportional representation of the House of Representatives, former assistant ministers Bhim Kumari Budha, Man Bahadur Khatri, Pushpa Shrestha and Manikala Rana have been recommended.
According to Hari Prasad Gharti Magar, a member of the NCP General Convention Organizing Committee, the names of Dahal, former ministers Barshaman Pun, Kul Prasad KC, Jaipuri Gharti and young Deepak Roka Magar have been recommended as direct route candidates.
For the proportional representation candidates, the names of Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Pavitra Gharti, Geeta Nepali and Babulal Pun have been recommended. Former Maoist leader and Lumbini Provincial Assembly member Dipendra Kumar Pun said that the Nepali Communist Party has become even stronger after its reorganization in Rolpa, the former Maoist stronghold.
UML, on the other hand, is working on selecting candidates, said its district chairman Amrit Budha. He claimed that the party's activities at the district level have been focused on elections after the 11th general convention.
Similarly, the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party Nepal, which is preparing for the election for the first time, has also increased its activities in the district. Leader Dhan Bahadur Thapa said that homework is being done on whether to make party general secretary Chand the candidate in Rolpa or recommend someone else.
The National Independent Party has also increased its activities in Rolpa. Party district chairman Ramesh Thapa said that internal discussions are ongoing to select candidates and that digital technology has been adopted.
