Banke Police have arrested Rastriya Janmat Party leader Irfan Ahmed Sheikh in connection with a hundi-related transaction.

The District Police Office, Banke, arrested leader Sheikh from Emilia, Dang, while he was going to Kapilvastu for a party program, said Deepak Patali, spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Banke District Police Office.

Sheikh, 40, of Subbapurwa, Ward No. 6, Duduwa Rural Municipality, was arrested to further the investigation process in a case registered based on a complaint received from the Financial Information Unit of Nepal Rastra Bank, Baluwatar, Kathmandu.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Patali, during the investigation, it was found that illegal financial transactions worth Rs 49.284 million were made through suspicious hundi.

After a large difference was found between the estimated annual income mentioned in the KYC details and the actual transactions, further investigation has been initiated on the suspicion that the activity may be related to hundi and money laundering.

Police have stated that a parallel investigation is underway on the suspicion that Bishnu Khatik of Kohalpur Municipality Ward No. 14 is also involved in the same case.

During the initial study, the police said that a large amount of turnover was seen in the bank accounts of both of them and that the cash deposited in the accounts was immediately transferred electronically to various individuals and organizations.

The arrested Shesh was previously involved in the Janmat Party. He had also filed his candidacy from Banke Constituency No. 2 in the last House of Representatives elections.
