Educational materials have been distributed to the children of families who died during foreign employment in Tansen, Palpa. On the occasion of International Migrants Day 2025, Tansen Municipality has distributed educational materials to 11 children of 9 families who died during foreign employment.

Sabin Gharti and Sandesh Gharti of Tansen Municipality-1, Isman Saru, Ayush Sunar, Rohit Mashrangi, Anmol Bhattarai of Ward No. 9, Shubham Khatri and Sonika Khatri of Ward No. 5, Swagat Khatri of Ward No. 6, Dipsa Nepali and Sumona Ghimire of Ward No. 10 have been distributed educational materials.
Tansen Municipality Mayor Santosh Lal Shrestha, Deputy Mayor Pratiksha Gaha Sinjali, Chief Administrative Officer Chetnath Giri and others have distributed educational materials to them.
Mayor Shrestha said that Tansen Municipality has always been sensitive to the residents of the municipality. He said that the SAMI program has been implemented to coordinate and support those facing problems in foreign employment and that many citizens who have been in difficulty have received help from this.
The Safe Immigration Sami Program was started in Tansen Municipality in the fiscal year 2080/81. The program has been providing information and counseling services, legal counseling and legal facilitation, and psychosocial counseling services, said Program Officer Dinesh Ghimire.
Information and counseling services are being provided by the Immigrant Resource Center at the District Administration Office. Ghimire said that since its establishment, 14,156 people have been provided counseling services related to foreign employment. 62 legal facilitations have been carried out. Under this, frauds occurring in the country and abroad, rescue of stranded people, and facilitation with families in case of death during foreign employment have been carried out. He said that psychosocial counseling services have been provided to 39 people.
Stakeholders have also been informed about the foreign employment environment, policy arrangements related to foreign employment, and the Sami program. Ghimire, District Program Officer of the Safe Immigration Program, informed about the role of stakeholders for safe foreign employment. A lamp was also lit in Tansen in memory of the workers who lost their lives during foreign employment.
Tansen Municipality Deputy Mayor Pratiksha Gaha Sinjali said that foreign employment has become a compulsion for Nepali youth. She emphasized that it should be made safe, dignified and skill-based. She said that the incidents of unsafe travel, fraud, labor exploitation and premature death are sad.
International Migrants Day is celebrated every year on December 18. This day aims to protect the rights of migrant workers around the world, appreciate their contribution and raise awareness among all parties.
