Bardiya National Park has released 10 gharials into the Babai River. Secretary, Federal Ministry of Forests and Environment, Govinda Prasad Sharma, released the crocodiles near the Babai Dam at Parewa Odar on the East-West Highway.

Bardiya National Park's headquarters, Thakurdwara, has released 10 crocodiles, including 5 females and 5 males, aged 4 years, into the natural habitat of the Babai River, said Sarojmani Poudel, Information Officer and Senior Assistant Conservation Officer of Bardiya National Park. The crocodiles were released in the presence of Bed Kumar Dhakal, Deputy Director General of the National Parks Department, among others.

There are 150 large and 70 small crocodiles in the Gharial Breeding Center. The government had listed the reptile Gharial as a protected wildlife species under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2029. A crocodile breeding center has been established in Bardiya National Park, which is a tourist destination in the west of Nepal, for the conservation of crocodiles. The park has stated that after the breeding center was established, crocodiles have been raised and cared for in the park.

Injured crocodiles found in the natural habitats of the Karnali and Babai rivers and abandoned crocodile eggs found on the river banks are being kept in the park's crocodile breeding center and given proper care, which has helped in crocodile conservation.
