Bardiya National Park has stated that all preparations for the tiger census in Banke, Bardiya and Dang have been completed since Wednesday. Although the tiger census was scheduled to be held from Poush 1 this year, it will be held from the 9th due to technical reasons.

Bardiya National Park Chief Ashok Ram said that all preparations for the tiger census have been completed. Although one block will be kept in Dang, the park will have one more block. 

Now, 6 blocks have been kept in Dang, Banke and Bardiya, 2/2 each, said Ajit Tumphahamphe, head of the National Trust for Nature Conservation. About 450 cameras will be used for the tiger census, said Tumphahamphe, head of the fund. 

The census is conducted using camera trapping technology. This year, the first tiger census will be conducted in Dang. Since it borders Banke National Park, tigers are also seen here from time to time, Bardiya National Park has stated that the census has been started.

The tiger census will be launched by National Park Wildlife Department Secretary Govinda Prasad Sharma, said Saroj Mani Poudel, Senior Conservation Officer of Bardiya National Park. Apart from Bardiya National Park, tigers will be counted in Khata Biological Trail and surrounding areas. The technical team deployed for the tiger census will be given. The tiger census will be held for 21 days.

In 2022, the number of tigers in Nepal reached 355. The number of 125 tigers was made public in Bardiya. In 2018, there were 87 tigers in Bardiya National Park. Tiger census is conducted in the park every four years.

A joint technical team from the National Park Wildlife Department and the National Nature Conservation Trust will conduct the census with the help of camera trapping. 56 park employees, along with the Nepali Army and 3 elephants for security, will be deployed in Bardiya for the tiger census.
