The municipal council of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City has decided to provide a dearness allowance of Rs 1,000 per month to contract employees. The decision to provide the allowance was made at the 18th session of the municipal council of the sub-metropolitan city held on Tuesday.
The Supreme Court had issued a mandate in August to provide dearness allowance to contract employees like permanent employees.
Sub-metropolitan Mayor Prashant Bista said that the decision to provide the allowance was made in compliance with the court order. He said that although there was no possibility of increasing it, the decision to provide the minimum allowance was made keeping in mind the situation of the sub-metropolitan city. Currently, about 200 contract employees are working in the sub-metropolitan city.
Similarly, the sub-metropolitan city has also reduced the budget ceiling given to the ward after the executive building and vehicles were set on fire and vandalized during the Genji protest.
The municipal assembly of the sub-metropolitan city, which has a budget of about 1.64 billion, has passed the Public Policy Partnership Act by amending the Finance Act 2082.
The budget for the current fiscal year 2082/083 has been amended and the ceiling given to the ward has been reduced by 5 percent. The Sub-Metropolitan City has stated that the ceiling of the ward office has been reduced keeping in mind the need to focus the Sub-Metropolitan City's budget on reconstruction and maintenance.
