Dr. Khagendra Acharya has provided one-year insurance for citizens who are financially disadvantaged and deprived of treatment.
Dr. Acharya, who works at Om Polyclinic in Sandhikharka, has insured 18 poor families from wards 1 to 9 of Malarani Rural Municipality for one year. He insured them at the Malarani Rural Municipality office.
He said that under social responsibility, he insured two members of very poor families from each ward from his salary.
‘I insured them from the salary I received for examining patients at the polyclinic,’ he said, ‘I saw that when members of very poor families got sick, they were forced to stay at home instead of going to the hospital for treatment because they had no money. After getting insurance, it becomes easier to get treatment.’
With the insurance taken out by one person in the family, five members of the family get benefits during treatment. Accordingly, 90 people can avail the service. Acharya said that by insuring 18 people at the rate of Rs 3,500 per person, it cost Rs 90,000.
