Khagendra Prasad and Rudrakali elephants, gifted to Qatar by the Nepalese government, arrived in Bhairahawa on Tuesday morning.
The pair of elephants, which were sent from Sauraha in Chitwan on Monday afternoon, were taken to Bhairahawa in the morning after being transported overnight.
Both elephants are set to be sent to Qatar from Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa on Wednesday. The elephants were brought here for that purpose. They were taken to the airport at around 7:30 am after being transported overnight.
According to Gautam Buddha International Airport Information Officer Binod Singh Raut, the elephants have been kept in a safe place inside the airport. According to Airport General Manager Shyam Kishore Sah, the elephants will be sent to Qatar from Bhairahawa on Wednesday afternoon.
A ‘handover’ program has been organized at the airport for that. The Nature Conservancy is making necessary preparations to bring the elephants in cages from Chitwan to Bhairahawa and send them from here.
A Boeing 777 chartered cargo plane will arrive in Bhairahawa from here to take the elephants to Qatar. The airport has informed that the plane will return from here with the elephant at 3:45 pm Nepali time.
