An orientation program has been completed in Nepalgunj with the aim of increasing understanding of autism and making children accept and empowered.
A two-day orientation program has been organized in Nepalgunj targeting children with autism, their parents and caregivers. The program was organized under the initiative of youth working in social work in Nepalgunj. According to the organizer, Suryamani Adhikari, Senior Vice President of Nepalgunj Swimming Club, the program, which has been running in Nepalgunj since Monday, focuses on knowledge, skills and practical measures related to autism. This program, which will also run on Tuesday, will be an effort to understand, accept autism and empower parents.
‘No one seems to have paid much attention to the situation of children with autism in Banke,’ Adhikari said, ‘The situation of parents of children with autism is even more difficult, which is why this program is very important.’
The program discussed topics such as detailed discussion on autism spectrum disorder, behavior management measures, home-based therapy (language, sensitivity, behavioral support and daily activities), long-term challenges and management strategies, and self-care of caregivers.
‘The program, facilitated by psychologist and ECD consultant, ABA and CBT therapy practitioner Prisima Thapa (Asisha), is free of charge,’ said Senior Vice President Adhikari, ‘the program will run from 10:30 am to 4 pm.’
The program is supported by Aakar Foundation Morang Nepal, while Lions Club of Nepalgunj PNLF and Lions Club of Nepalgunj Youth are in collaboration.
