The Lumbini Development Fund has been gifted five Buddha statues by Vinh Hoang Vanduk Company and Son Thong Monastery, a Vietnamese seafood manufacturing and exporting company.

The statues of Buddha seated in Dhyana Mudra, Abhaya Mudra, Bhumisparsha Mudra, Dharmachakra Mudra and Gyan Mudra were handed over. The full-length, attractive statues made of metal have been plated with gold and silver. The cost of all five statues, three and a half feet tall and two and a half feet wide, is about $55,000.

Earlier, monks from Vietnam had unveiled the Buddha statue after performing religious rituals. The statue was handed over to Smita Bhatta, the fund's project manager, by Vietnamese monk and owner of Vinh Hoang Vanduk Company, Khanh Tubong. The statue is kept in the museum in Lumbini.

Inspired by the compassion, friendship and goodwill of Buddha, it is a matter of joy that Vietnam came to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, and handed over the statue, said Dr. Haridhwaj Rai, Senior Information Officer of Lumbini Development Fund.
