Khim Bahadur Hamal has been re-elected as the president of Nepal Cancer Prevention Institute, Rupandehi. The organization's sixth district convention held in Butwal on Monday elected a new 15-member working committee under Hamal's leadership.

Election Committee Coordinator Mahendra Pandey said that Bina Neupane, Baburam BK, Prajapal Giri, Gunanidhi Khanal, Tejnarayan Aryal, Poonam Poudel, Indira Pandey, Muktiraj Poudel, Bhagawata Belbase, Nima Tharu, Uma Thapa, Ramesh Parajuli and Shaileka Pant were elected unopposed as members of the committee. The committee has a provision to have two vice-chairmen, including a woman, a general secretary, a treasurer, a co-treasurer and a joint secretary. The office bearers other than the chairperson will be selected from the members.  

At the inauguration of the convention, central member of the organization, Madhusudan Gaire, said that the organization's role is important in cancer control, prevention and public awareness, adding that changing food habits and lifestyles have also added challenges. 

Chairman Hamal said that the organization, established in 2053 BS, considers cancer a serious challenge for society and prioritizes public awareness programs. According to the data provided to the organization by the District Public Health Office, 821 new cancer patients were added to Rundehi last year.

Chairman Hamal said that in the coming days, various programs will be conducted with the aim of making citizens aware about the prevention, timely detection and treatment of cancer.
