What you should know
As the time for recommending candidates for the House of Representatives approaches, controversy has escalated in the Rupandehi Congress. The Congress has recommended names from Rupandehi constituencies number 2, 4, and 5.
In Constituency No. 3, a decision has not been made after 7 people including Balkrishna Khand are aspirants. Khand was arrested for being involved in a fraud case involving an organized gang that collected money from Nepali citizens by pretending to be Bhutanese refugees and taking them to America. The controversy has increased after the establishment party recommended the name of former state minister and Congress leader Bharat Shah from Constituency No. 5. The Shekhar Koirala party has made a separate list and recommended the name from Constituency No. 5. Claiming that the establishment party did not inform the other party while recommending Bharat Shah, the Shekhar group has made another list and recommended it to the center. The Congress has directed the district to recommend up to 3 candidates from each constituency. The district has been instructed to recommend the names of the provinces and the provinces to the center. However, in places where there is a dispute between the two groups, they are sending their own party's name to the center. After the establishment group single-handedly recommended the name of former Minister of State for Finance and three-time elected to the House of Representatives from Rupandehi constituency number 5, the Shekhar group has recommended the names of three people, including young leader Bishnu Pokharel. Although Shah was a candidate from a 5-party alliance in the 2079 BS election, he was defeated by UML's Basudev Ghimire. Regional Secretary Krishna Prasad Sharma said that the establishment group had to send a separate list after recommending Shah's name single-handedly without informing him. 'It is mentioned that the Mahasamiti members and the central general convention representatives must be present for the candidate recommendation,' he said, 'but Shah's name has been single-handedly recommended without even informing the provincial general convention representatives and us.' He said that even in a complex political situation, there is a politics of prohibition within the Congress.
The Shekhar group, on the other hand, has recommended the names of young leader Pokharel, general convention representative and former regional secretary Prakash Bhusal, and general convention representative Leela Kumari Poudel. Rupandehi Constituency No. 5 Regional President Vasiullah Musalman claimed that Shah's nominal proposal was received in the meeting and that no one opposed it, so a single recommendation was made. However, Congress Regional Secretary Krishna Prasad Sharma, Regional Joint Secretary Hari Prasad Ghimire, Joint Secretary Chiranjivi Khanal, Mahasamiti Member Sheshman Yadav, General Convention Representative Sharada Gautam, Cham Bahadur Thapa, Khimananda Khanal, Humnath Adhikari, Dilmaya Kandel and others have signed the recommendation to make Pokharel a candidate. Similarly, the district committee members and municipal chairmen of the area have also signed in favor of Pokharel.
Similarly, the establishment party has recommended Regional President Vasiullah Musalman and Mamkala Thapa for the proportional representation and Suryamati Upadhyay and Sheshman Yadav for the National Assembly. The Shekhar faction has recommended advocate Sheshman Yadav, Dol Bahadur Thapa, Dilmaya Kandel, Khadananda Khanal and Sita Pokharel for the proportional representation of the House of Representatives and Raghunath Ghimire, Indra Bahadur GC and Kalpana Dhakal for the National Assembly.
Similarly, the names of Poudel, Prakash Rana, Yubaraj Giri, Kumar KC and Prajapal Giri have been recommended for election from Constituency No. 2. Since the names of 7 people including central member and former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand have been received from Constituency No. 3, the recommendation has not been made. Efforts are being made to recommend Khand individually from Constituency No. 3. According to Constituency No. 3 Regional President Sushil Gurung, efforts are being made to reach a consensus after 7 people were received in both proportional representation and direct representation.
Leader Pramod Yadav's name has been recommended individually from Constituency No. 4. He had previously contested in the same constituency and lost to Sarvendranath Shukla.
