House of Representatives election: Rana Congress candidate recommended from Palpa-1

Sandeep Rana's name has been unanimously nominated by the Nepali Congress for the post of member of the House of Representatives in Palpa Constituency No. 1.

The regional committee meeting held to recommend candidates for the elections to be held on Falgun 21 has unanimously recommended the name of Rana, a resident of Rampur Municipality-7, according to regional president Jhaman Raj Magar. He said that it has been decided to recommend candidates from Palpa 1, including Lumbini Province member Krishna Prasad Adhikari and one more woman. The meeting was held in the presence of regional committee officials, members, and Congress district president Himal Dutta Shrestha, secretary Santosh Kumar Thapa Magar, as well as Mahasamiti, general convention representatives, town and village presidents. Rana, who was recommended for direct elections, is also a Lumbini Province member of the Congress and the president of the International BP Chintan Pratishthan. Regional president Raj Magar said that the name recommended by the regional committee will be sent to the district and provincial committees. The party candidate will be made from this name. The regional committee meeting has decided to distribute new active membership and hold the 15th general convention on time. Congress has been facing defeats in region number 1 since 2051 BS.

In the 2079 BS House of Representatives election, UML candidate Narayan Prasad Acharya defeated his nearest rival, Congress candidate Gyan Bahadur Gaha, in Palpa 1 by a margin of 10,847 votes. Acharya received 31,103 votes out of the total votes cast in the election. Congress candidate Gaha received 20,256 votes.
