The cold storage project, which was supposed to be completed in two years, is being completed in 13 years.

What you should know

Due to the negligence of Tansen Municipality and construction contractors, the construction of the cold storage facility, which was supposed to be completed in two years, is taking 13 years to complete.

The construction of the cold store building in Bagkhor, Tansen Municipality-7 is almost complete.

The main building of the cold store with a capacity of 200 metric tons in an area of four ropanis, along with the surrounding areas, has been completed, along with the fence, flower garden, office building, guard room, etc. The construction of the building should have been completed 11 years ago. Although the construction of the building for the cold store has been completed, the necessary machinery and equipment are yet to arrive, said Tansen Municipality Engineer Ram Prasad Shrestha. ‘The construction of the building should have been completed along with the machinery in 2071 BS,’ he said, ‘There have been delays in this due to various reasons.’

A contract was signed on 23 Falgun 2069 with the support of the Indian Embassy to complete the work in two years. The contract was signed with the support of the Indian Embassy of Rs 44 million, 444 thousand 410 and the Tansen Municipality of Rs 55 lakh 47 thousand 469 in cost sharing, according to Tansen Municipality. An agreement was signed with Himdung & Thokar/Jai Raktakali JV Construction Company for the construction. Although the Jai Raktakali Construction Company had started the work, it was abandoned in the middle.

Engineer Shrestha of Tansen Municipality informed that the construction company completed the work after pressure from the municipality. Himdung & Thokar Construction Company belongs to former Chief Minister of Bagmati Province Bahadur Singh Lama. The Palpa cold storage facility has been constructed to eliminate the compulsion of farmers from Palpa, Gulmi, and Syangja to take their produce to the cold store in Bhairahawa. The construction of the cold store will help in storing oranges, potatoes, junar, and other materials produced in the city and rural areas.
