Rewati Gurung has taken the oath of office and secrecy as a member of the Lumbini Provincial Assembly. According to the Lumbini Provincial Assembly Secretariat, Gurung has been appointed as a member of the Provincial Assembly to fill the vacant seat as per the Election Commission's decision on Mangsir 11.

Sarita Pun, 32, of Taksera, Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality-10, Rukum East, passed away on Bhadra 14 during treatment. Gurung, a resident of Devdaha Municipality-5 of Rupandehi, has been nominated in the proportional list that became vacant after Pun's death, according to the order of representation from the indigenous peoples' quota under women.

Gurung is at number 13 in the closed list of UML and got the opportunity because she was at the first place in the priority list. As per Section 30 (2) of the Provincial Assembly Member Election Act, 2074 BS and Rule 47 (5) of the Election Rules, 2074 BS, there is a provision to appoint candidates in the order listed in the vacant positions. As per the same provision, Gurung was sworn in as a Provincial Assembly member by Speaker Tularam Gharti Magar in the Provincial Assembly on Tuesday.

Gurung, who has been a district member for three terms in UML Rupandehi, is previously a member of the UML Lumbini Provincial Committee. Gurung, who has been active in politics for a long time, had hoped to become a member of the Provincial Assembly in the first phase of the 2079 elections, but was unhappy when she did not get it.

Neelam Paswan was appointed to the vacant seat after resigning from the public vote in Chaitra.  Both Paswan and Gurung  will remain as members of the Provincial Assembly for the next two years.
