Lumbini Buddhist University organized a cleanup drive in the Lumbini area on Friday to mark its 21st anniversary.

In the morning, they gathered at Parsa Chowk in Lumbini and cleaned the area.

The program organized by the Faculty of Religious Studies under the university was attended by university officials, teachers, employees of the central campus, community-partner police, Lumbini Bachau Mahaabhiyan, employees of Lumbini Cultural Municipality, Armed Police Force and locals.

Inaugurating the cleaning program, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Subarnalal Bajracharya, said that society will not improve by doing a cleaning program once a year. 'We can do a sweep every day, but we cannot do it by cleaning once,' he said, 'We should break the tradition of cleaning programs done during festivals and do it daily.'

He said that the university should focus on tree plantation programs as there is a shortage of trees in the Lumbini area now. A one-hour cleaning program was held on Friday morning. The participants cleaned from Parsa Chowk to the university.
