The seventh (winter) session of the Lumbini Provincial Assembly began on Monday. In the first meeting after the recent political changes and the Gen-G protests, the provincial assembly members discussed the Gen-G protests and expressed concern that the atmosphere of fear continues to exist.
In the first meeting, Speaker Tula Ram Gharti Magar informed about the information received from the office of the provincial chief regarding the convening of the seventh session, information about the reorganization of the Council of Ministers, and the letter regarding the verification of bills passed and verified in the sixth session.
According to the agenda, the provincial assembly members who spoke in the exchange of greetings in the meeting on Monday also discussed the Gen-G movement and demonstration on Bhadra 23 and 24. Speaking in the meeting, UML Chief Whip Tulsi Prasad Chaudhary said that the purpose of the movement was not clear. He alleged that the essence of the Gen-G movement was only a conspiracy to remove KP Sharma Oli from power.
Nepali Congress Chief Whip Jamuna Dhakal said that the Gen-G demonstration broke out due to the lack of restraint and responsible working style. She claimed that there is still an atmosphere of fear on the streets after the Gen-G demonstration. He was concerned that the parties were still making accusations and counter-accusations when everyone should contribute to ease the situation.
Indrajit Tharu, Chief Whip of the CPN-Maoist Center, said that a serious introspection of the situation was necessary. He suggested that all parties should identify the specific reasons for the situation that arose after the Genji protests and take responsibility for the issue of nationality. Provincial Assembly members Ambika Kafle, Bhandari Lal Ahir, Hema Belbase, Chandrakesh Gupta, Janaki Prasad Yadav and other members spoke in the meeting. The second meeting of the Provincial Assembly will also be held on Tuesday.
The bill to amend the District Assembly and District Coordination Committee Operation Act, 2075 BS and the bill to amend the Local Level Office Bearers and Members Facilities Act, 2076 BS have been registered at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat for discussion in the seventh session.
