Demands of Genji group in Rolpa resolved through discussion

Various demands raised by the Genji group in Madi Rural Municipality have been resolved through discussions. For a few weeks, the Genji group had been staging a sit-in at the rural municipality building, making various demands.

The problem was resolved for the time being through discussions and all-party consensus between the municipality's people's representatives, political parties, civic leaders, and members of the Genji group late on Wednesday night. The Genji group formed in the rural municipality had been continuously pressuring the people's representatives, including the rural municipality chairperson, about issues including allegations of not listening to public complaints and financial opacity.

An all-party committee was formed under the coordination of the rural municipality's vice-chairperson, Jayapuri Gharti Magar, to discuss the issues raised by the Genji group. A solution was sought on Wednesday after long discussions and debates. According to UML leader Prem Bahadur Gharti Magar, who is a member of the committee, a solution to the demands raised by the Genji group was sought through all-party consensus. He said that the strained relationship between the rural municipality chairperson Amarsingh Gharti Magar and other leaders is expected to improve.

Ward No. 2 Chair Lalit Gharti Magar had already announced his resignation after the demands raised by the Genji group could not be agreed upon through the rural municipality meeting. In his resignation letter, he said that he had to resign because the rural municipality chairman was not serious about the eight-point demands raised by the Genji group. However, his resignation has not been accepted.

The youth have been pressuring the rural municipality to resolve local problems on a priority basis by forming Genji groups in Madi and Parivartan rural municipalities in Rolpa.
