What you should know

Sharp stones that scratch your feet. Where the young generation dances, walks, stands, and sits on the stones adorned on the mountaintops, capturing the scene with photos/videos on their mobile phones.

Even if you step on the sharp stone and bend it, you will be amazed by the beauty of the surrounding landscape, mountains, forests and settlements. From where the stone garden and the surrounding landscape, the view of the mountains, forests and settlements fascinates tourists.

After seeing the videos and photos posted on TikTok, Reels and Facebook, the Rock Garden in Divern, Sandhikharka Municipality-11 has started to get crowded every day.

Anju Bhusal, who arrived at the garden from Kimdanda, spent two hours wandering around the stones. Her focus was on where to turn her face to get good videos and photos. She spent her time repeatedly checking her mobile phone, deleting the damaged photos and videos and taking new ones.

‘Looking east, the scenery is the same everywhere, including the Gulmi river,’ she said, ‘Even if you step on the sharp stone and bend it, I had a hard time taking good videos/photos. It is a place to come here and refresh yourself during times of stress. Wow! Everywhere you look, there is fun.’

The rocks, which look as if they were artistically decorated by people themselves and arranged according to plan, are of a unique nature. This place is becoming a good destination for people doing various professions, businesses, jobs, and studies in the district headquarters. The natural rock itself has become a garden.

Dr. Khagendra Acharya of Om Polyclin remembers this place on his days off. ‘Sitting on the rocks and looking at the villages, high mountains, neighboring districts, and forests brings a special pleasure,’ he said. ‘The cool breeze blows, I enjoyed sitting on the rocks and in the meadow.’ Since the rock garden is located at a high place, the mountain range can also be seen. He said that the government should protect the natural structure and make it a tourist destination.

Last Saturday, Ghanshyam Ghimire spent the whole day at the rock garden with his family. Since it was a busy day, he waited for some time and took pictures. He said that he had sent messages and phone calls to inquire about the place since he had not been there after posting videos/photos on TikTok and Facebook in the evening.

He said that he spent his days sitting in the garden and the meadow eating dry food on his days off. ‘The attraction here is the natural beauty,’ he said, ‘where you feel refreshed when you stay.’ Thaneshwor Acharya, a local who has been grazing cows and goats on these rocks since childhood, is surprised when tourists from far and wide come here to spend their days.

‘We used to graze buffaloes and cows on rocks all over the place because they get worms in the rain,’ he said, ‘Looking at it, it has become a tourist destination. I am surprised when people wearing coats and cars come and wander around, taking photos with their mobile phones.’

This land, spread over an area of hundreds of ropanis, has been fenced. The place where tourists can climb has been secured from the cliffs and cliffs. The Lumbini Provincial Government and Sandhikharka Municipality have placed the national flag on a high place here, along with toilets, water taps, and places to sit.

A few days ago, Prem Budhathoki of Divern has operated a cold store. Sandhikharka Municipality Mayor Krishna Prasad Shrestha said that they are working according to the plan to build a good tourist destination by creating additional structures for tourists who spend the day here, including snacks and meals, and building infrastructure for them.

Initially, while searching for soil and stones for road construction, former president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and construction entrepreneur of Sandhikharka, Yubaraj Shrestha, after seeing it, suggested to stakeholders and government bodies that a rock garden could be built. After that, after promoting it and bringing it to the road, it has gradually become a tourist destination for the past three years.
