The Food and Management Trade Center, Rajapur, has implemented a coupon system for purchasing 30 bullock carts or tractors of paddy from farmers daily. This arrangement was made after there was a problem of not getting a turn even after standing in a long queue for 3-4 days, said Chief Kamal Pandey.
After the coupon system was implemented, farmers have started selling paddy according to serial numbers. Farmers in the queue have been urged to come according to the coupon date.
The Food and Management Trade Center, Rajapur has started purchasing paddy since Kartik 19. According to Chief Pandey, about 5,822 quintals of paddy have been purchased. This year, the center has also set up paddy purchase depots in Gulariya, Shantibazaar and Jayajagar besides Rajapur.
Till Tuesday, 4,04 quintals of paddy have been purchased in Rajapur, 1,464 quintals in Shantibazaar, 343 quintals in Jayanagar and 35 quintals in Gulariya. This year's paddy purchase quota has been set at 30,000 quintals.
Farmers from Bardiya district must mandatorily submit the ward recommendation, copy of citizenship and copy of Lalpurja to the sales center while selling paddy. Farmers from Kailali also came to sell paddy through some middlemen, due to which local farmers have protested. Krishna Regmi, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rajapur, said that the farmers from Kailali may have come with a recommendation because they have ties to Rajapur. The Food Center has returned the paddy of those outside farmers.
This year, the government has fixed the price of coarse paddy at Rs 3,463.81 and fine paddy at Rs 3,628.33.
