Police arrested nine people on Sunday on charges of arson, stone-pelting, vandalism, looting and theft in Ghorahi during the Genji movement and protests on Bhadra 23 and 24.

 

Eight people involved in arson, robbery, and theft incidents at the District Traffic Police Office, Ghorahi and one person involved in stone-pelting, vandalism, and arson at the police post at Bhanu Chowk, Ghorahi-15 have been arrested.

Of the arrested people, five have been remanded in custody by the Dang District Court for arson at the Traffic Police Office and the police post, and further investigation is underway, said District Police Spokesperson DSP Chakra Bahadur Shah.

Those arrested are Sunil Thapa Magar, 24, of Ghorahi-15, Kunal Shrestha, 24, Inahit Qureshi, 18, Tekam Dangi, and 18, of Bivek Pun Magar. Similarly, Amar Bahadur Wali, 26, of Shatreshwari Rural Municipality-4 of Salyan, Mahesh Ghimire, 29, of Ghorahi-13, and Sharad Basnet, 34, of Dhikpur, Ghorahi-9, have been arrested.

DSP Shah said that they were arrested on charges of arson, looting and theft at the Traffic Police Office. Similarly, Sandeep Gharti, 25, of Ghorahi-13, has also been arrested on charges of stone-pelting, vandalism and arson at the police station at Bhanu Chowk.

Police said that they are searching for other people who damaged public and government property during the protest.
