The Area Police Office, Butwal, has seized 31 iPhone mobile sets that were being illegally imported into Nepal.

Police have said that 31 iPhones of various models were found in a bag that was found abandoned in the service lane of Siddhartha Highway at Sakhuwani, Tilottama Municipality-15, Rupandehi, around 9:30 pm last night. The estimated value of the recovered mobile phones is around Rs 1.665 million, said Indra Rana, Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the Area Police Office, Butwal.

According to the police, the people carrying the mobile phones had thrown the bag and fled after seeing the police team. Since the police did not receive the necessary documents regarding the recovered goods and no one contacted them, the mobile phones have been handed over to the Bhairahawa Customs Office.

Similarly, the police have also recovered other goods that were smuggled into Nepal through customs fraud. These goods include 94 pairs of jeans, 84 kurta sets, 16 shawls, 108 pairs of socks, 16 kurtas, 48 pieces of gul manjan and 2 sacks of kerau. The value of all these is estimated to be around Rs 90,000.
