The physical progress of the new bus park under construction in Tansen Municipality-5, Bandevi area is 57 percent as the deadline for the extension of the construction contractor is approaching. The financial progress of the work contracted by Swayambhu-Red Earth-Hamal JV Construction under the first phase of the new bus park is 43 percent.

The first phase of the new bus park construction was completed in 22 months, i.e. by 6 Poush 2081, an agreement was signed with the construction contractor on 7 Baisakh 2080. Tansen Municipality Engineer Ram Prasad Shrestha said that a total of 57 percent physical progress had been made by the contractor one year after the deadline. According to the extended deadline, the construction company was supposed to complete the first phase of the work by 30 Kartik 2082. However, the progress of the work has not progressed beyond 57 percent.

Tansen Municipality has stated that the delay has now occurred because the construction contractor did not accelerate the work for a year after the contract agreement. Initially, the contractor delayed the construction work on various pretexts, which is why the work could not accelerate. Tansen Municipality had planned to construct a bus park on an area of 4.98 hectares in the Bandevi area of the Tansen-Dhungakhani (Ridi) road section. The work has been carried out with 70 percent loan assistance from the Municipal Development Fund for the bus park.

The construction was delayed because the construction contractor took a long time to design and prepare construction materials, said Shiva Sharma, the municipality's engineer. According to him, there were some problems when the construction contractor was unable to work according to the design made by the consultant. 'Initially, the deadline was extended because there was some delay in the work when some work had to be corrected in the master plan,' he said, 'Now there is no problem for the contractor to work.'

The municipality had lost a large amount of money in the past due to failure to identify the bus park construction site. Local residents allege that the construction contractor delayed the work by not regulating and monitoring the construction work on the currently contracted work. A memorandum has also been submitted to Tansen Municipality under the leadership of Ward Chairman Ram Bahadur Rawal, demanding that the work of the new bus park be expedited. Mayor Santosh Lal Shrestha responded that although the work of the bus park construction has been delayed, it will now be accelerated. He said that although there was some delay in the initial phase as the design and construction work was done by the same company, the work will now be accelerated.

As the extended deadline approaches, physical progress of Tansen New Bus Park construction is only 57 percent The municipality claims that there is some delay in the construction work as there are many technical works to be done in the first phase. The construction business has stated that the work of making the necessary materials for the design and construction work has been completed. Engineer Sharma said that since it is the first phase of work, a lot of time has been spent on designing and making the materials.

The municipality claims to be the most equipped bus park in the province. The construction work has been progressing with 70 percent loan assistance from the Municipal Development Fund. Of which 30 percent is co-investment by the municipal government. The detailed project report states that the bus park will be constructed in two phases at a cost of Rs 480 million. However, the municipality has progressed the construction work in two phases. Under the first phase, a contract of Rs 203.5 million has been signed, and an agreement has been reached for Rs 181.3 million.

The work of the reinforced earth wall (RE wall) is currently being completed using state-of-the-art technology. The RE wall has been constructed in Manigram, Rupandehi and brought to Tansen. Engineer Shrestha said that under the first phase of the work, a terminal with a capacity of 18 buses, three shutters for business users, a public toilet, an administrative building and a park will be constructed.

In the second phase, a well-organized bus park,  petrol pump, auto village, and supermarket have also been proposed. He said that the well-organized bus park is going to be built on the model of the new bus park in Kathmandu. He said that the work of building the bus park is progressing with plans to have a terminal for parking small and large vehicles, a garage for building vehicles, necessary help rooms for passengers, and offices of transport business companies.

The current bus park built in Tansen 42 years ago has become narrow. It is two kilometers away from the old bus park to reach the new bus park under construction. The plan to build the bus park was in progress 18 years ago. When the World Bank tried to provide assistance in 2059 BS, the work did not progress due to the dispute over the land for the bus park.

1,272 pine trees and 20 other trees were cut for the construction of the new bus park. The municipality has stated that land has been purchased and handed over to the government to plant 25 trees for every tree cut for using the forest area. Currently, there is chaotic parking of buses, jeeps, trucks, etc. in Tansen.
