Workers of the Ghorahi and Sonapur cement industries, which were closed after the power line was cut, staged a sit-in at the Nepal Electricity Authority's Ghorahi distribution center on Sunday.
They have been protesting under the slogan 'Guarantee employment for workers, open closed industries'. Both industries have been closed after the NEA shut down the electricity supply to Ghorahi Cement on Kartik 4 and Sonapur Cement on Kartik 7.
Ghorahi Cement Industry was producing 3,000 metric tons of clinker and cement as per requirement daily. After the closure of the industry, 600 workers and employees have been unemployed.
Sonapur Cement Industry was producing 35,000 bags of cement daily. After the closure of the industry, 350 employees have been asked not to come to work until further notice.
Ghorahi Cement Industry has an electricity arrears of Rs 508.5 million and Sonapur Cement Industry has an electricity arrears of Rs 243 million, according to the NEA.
